Turning community concerns into action

Each of our initiatives tackles a real challenge facing both people and wildlife in Bragg Creek — from reducing collisions to shaping future land use. Together, they form a roadmap for safer co-existence.

Garbage Bylaw

Unsecured waste is one of the biggest attractants for bears and other wildlife. Once habituated, animals often pay with their lives.

We advocate for stronger garbage bylaws and better enforcement to ensure bins are wildlife-proof and attractants are reduced.

Proper waste management saves wildlife lives and keeps our community safe.

BearSmart

Bear encounters can be dangerous — but most are preventable.

We share BearSmart resources, run workshops, and provide tools for residents to reduce attractants, store garbage safely, and respond properly when they encounter a bear.

By becoming a BearSmart community, we reduce conflict and keep bears wild.

Wildlife Mapping

We can’t protect what we don’t track. Wildlife sightings and road incidents often go unreported, leaving gaps in data.

We collect community-reported sightings (living or deceased) to build an interactive map of local wildlife movement. This data guides signage, planning, and education.

Your sightings directly inform safer roads, smarter development, and stronger conservation.

Vehicle Collisions

Nearly half of vehicle accidents in Alberta involve wildlife — tragic for both people and animals.

By combining mapping data, signage advocacy, and awareness campaigns, we work to reduce the number of collisions in and around Bragg Creek.

Fewer collisions mean safer travel, lower costs, and fewer lost wildlife.

Education

Awareness starts with connection — especially among young people.

We collaborate with local schools and artists to create wildlife-themed art installations and walks that celebrate our wild neighbours.

Art brings conservation to life, inspires pride in our community, and builds the next generation of wildlife advocates.

Area Structure Plan

Bragg Creek is growing — but without thoughtful planning, development can disrupt critical wildlife corridors and habitats.

We provide citizen-led feedback, advocate for wildlife-friendly land-use policies, and ensure wildlife considerations are included in every stage of planning.

Smart growth keeps Bragg Creek vibrant while protecting the wild spaces that define us.

River Berm

The berm project, designed for flood mitigation, also impacts wildlife movement and habitat.

We monitor and advocate for wildlife-friendly design and mitigation strategies that balance safety for residents with respect for our ecosystems.

Infrastructure can protect people without sacrificing wildlife — if done thoughtfully.
