Built to reduce flood risk, the river berm has helped protect the community. However, it unintentionally disrupted a vital wildlife corridor, limiting animals’ access to the river and to habitat north of the waterway.

Our work

We monitor conditions on the ground and advocate for wildlife-friendly design solutions that balance public safety with ecological integrity. A simple, effective step, such as adding three strategically placed wildlife access points, would restore safe passage to the river and reconnect this important corridor.

Why it matters

Protecting people and protecting nature are not opposing goals. Thoughtfully designed infrastructure can do both. When ecosystems remain healthy and connected, they provide essential natural services that support our community’s well-being and quality of life.
